360 HD-DVD Drive…Missing In Action

March 15, 2007 | By | 2 Comments

For the last few weeks I’ve been keeping an eye on game retail shops, waiting for them to get the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive back in stock. They have been readily available online again for over a month now, but the stores don’t seem to be getting any which seems a little strange.

I’ve been to all the usual suspects, GAME, Gamestation, HMV in Southampton with no joy. Even HMV on Oxford Street in London don’t have them! We were down in Poole earlier today and in Gamestation they were advertising a bundle of the drive and a couple of movies. So after waiting for what seemed like an eternity at the counter I was told they had only received SIX since the system launched last year. First question that springs to mind, why advertise a bundle when you haven’t got the product? But they did have a used one, which they wanted the full retail price of £129.99 for. Needless to say, I made my excuses and left.

A quick check on the web, they are in stock with Play, HMV and GAME, so why aren’t they going to retail? I relented and ordered one off eBay, and a copy of Mission: Impossible III.

  1. HMV in Winchester has 5 of them. I went to return my 360 (3 red lights!) and there they where. Didn’t get one, I really only watch movies once.

  2. That’s handy to know that at least someone has seen them in shops! Thanks Jack :)
