Panasonic Freesat & Blu-ray
Panasonic were stationed in Southampton’s West Quay shopping centre today, showing off their integrated Freesat TVs and generally pushing the freebie satellite service. It made a change to see someone FINALLY doing something to make the general public aware of Freesat which seems to be taking the term “soft launch” a little too far. Who knows, when more channels are added and the PVR boxes finally appear they might actually think about some sort of decent PR blitz.
As far as the tech itself was concerned, they were showing the 42, 46 and 50 inch plasmas with integrated Freesat which looked very impressive. Not that they were actually showing Freesat running live, merely a promo roll running from one of their Blu-ray players. But the goodies bags contained some decent info, and what could be better than a free pen? That’s right, two free pens.
Speaking of Panasonic, their high end DMP-BD50 Blu-ray player seems to be getting closer to release, with Multiregionmagic now taking preorders for a very reasonable £399. I’m still keeping a watchful eye on Movietyme, more and more discs are having region coding added and a US player could be the way to go for me.

Not sure I’d personally like to have a steaming-hot satellite tuner stuffed in the back of my expensive new TV, but the more publicity Freesat gets, the better!
At least Panasonic are running a nationwide TV-ad campaign for the new tellys. I just feel that it lends a kind of credence to the whole Freesat roadshow.
