Snow Day!

| February 2, 2009 | 4 Comments

Living in the South of England is all very nice, but we rarely get any snow down here.  Go up to the Midlands or Birmingham and you will get a decent blanket of it several times over the course of a year.  Down here?  If we get really deep snow that lasts for days then everyone remembers it.  My greatest memories of snow growing up are that all the local schools were closed except for mine (thanks St. Katharines).

So when the MET Office tells of a severe weather warning and chance of snow it’s usually best to ignore it down here.  The Snow Gods (who probably live in Lapland, home of lap dancing) decide that Hampshire and Dorset don’t really need any.
But not this time, I woke up this morning to a blanket of snow outside, and it was still coming down hard (and still is as I type this).  I made an attempt to get to work, but none of the roads round here are gritted and it’s a pretty thick smattering out there.  “Only essential journeys” said the man on the TV.  That’s good enough for me.  I’m not driving 30 miles across country roads in that thankyou very much.

Fortunately thanks to this digitally connected age that we live in, I can sit here at home in my office, connected to work via VPN and can resolve the majority of issues that may arise.  There is also the extra added bonus that I could be doing this whilst sat around in my pants, eating bacon sandwich and playing on the Xbox 360.  That is the dream of homeworking.

It is also February 2nd today, and that means only one thing. Groundhog Day! Not that I ever need any excuse to watch one of my favourite movies, but watching it today surrounded by the snow would be rather apt.  It has also just been released on Blu-ray in the US.  Want to read a review?  Check out the one at HD Digest.  Time for those bacon sandwiches…

UPDATE: I just saw someone drive past the house sliding all over the shop and then bang into the kerb. Glad I stayed home now!

    One word for you Pete….Git.

Bristol has less powder than you can find lining the inside of a cokeheads nasal passages. Enjoy the snow and cane the 360!

Well you know I’ll be devoting all my time until 2pm to work so….Well. Maybe just a LITTLE 360 while other things are happening. I did spend hours on Friday night doing out of hours work so what goes around and all that :)

Snow days are the best ! That feeling that, even if people were to call you and need something RIGHT NOW, you couldn’t get out to do it. You’re ‘trapped’ in the house and cut off from any responsibility that requires you to get fully dressed. It’s a wonderful feeling.
Here in Tennessee there was a dusting of snow on top of the truck this morning, but it’s in the 40’s now and just raining.
    Enjoy your day !

Ah yes that is a good feeling. At the moment it’s snowing, it’s heavier than it was this morning and the word is that overnight there will be more and a ton of ice for good measure tomorrow morning as well.

    No thanks!
