Problems Reading Posts

| April 6, 2009 | 3 Comments

Time for a little bit of housekeeping.   A few of you have been having some problems viewing particular posts on the site, none of which have been giving me any problems.

After a prodding from Brian (and thanks also to Lee, DXEndar, Maceie and others) that the Day the Earth Stood Still review wasn’t displaying properly I have tracked the problem down to being with Internet Explorer.
I write mosts of posts in Word 2007 and paste them into the WordPress editor.  When the post is saved it creates a load of extra code at the top which I just delete and then publish.  Everything looks fine in Firefox (my browser of choice), but after checking the posts for RE5 and also the Ghosts of Mars review none of them display in good old IE.

It turns out there is also some extra extra, super secret hidden HTML code that the pasted Word document text puts in that prevents the post from displaying correctly (I enjoy the irony that two Microsoft products can’t work together happpily).  A quick edit of the raw HTML stripping everything that shouldn’t be there out and abrakebabra, they now display ok again.

Thanks to all of you who let me know about this, I’ll be sure to test the posts in various browsers before publishing them completely in future!  And as an aside, if there are any other posts on the site that do not display correctly in Internet Explorer then please let me know.

    Super Secret Hidden HTML . . . so SSHHTML then ? 8- )

Glad you figured it out, I was thinking it was my firewall trying to block part of your site or something.

That is funny that two Microsoft products cant get along ! You’d think that IE would be able to read whatever Word put in there . . . but that’s what you would get for thinkin’ !

I’m stuck on IE. I supose I need to at least TRY Firefox out. But at my age, any kind of change is difficult.

Brilliant feedback on the problems Pete, if only some of the big hitters cared enough to proof read and bug hunt their posts. I name no names….*ahem..T3*
