Living With The Light is the first book from spiritual medium Mary Anne (I know her simply as Mum). I have been working on getting the book published for the last couple of months, and this mammoth project is finally complete. You can visit the books official web site HERE, or click the link in the sidebar.

Living With The Light was written to share my life experience, explaining how my spiritual growth came about. My aim in writing this book is to help others by sharing the contents.

My narrative starts with events from my early life, with memories of childhood in a fairly dysfunctional family. I describe much hardship and insecurity, first with my mother leaving home (which was a rare event back in the 1950s) and later the death of my beloved father, which was the catalyst for my searching for spiritual truths.

My father’s death came about when I was eleven years old. It had a huge effect on my life, changing my whole world. I just couldn’t accept that his death was final, and my searching began from this time.

I went to live in a Children’s Home after my father’s death, and share the tragic and funny side at this time in my life. I remained at the home for five years.

With my searching for evidence of my father’s survival, which took many long years, an abundance of extraordinary events took place, which I chart over the years. I had many interesting experiences and later developed my own personal gift of spiritual mediumship.

Several years ago, I invited my daughter and nephew to join me in a home circle to help them develop their spiritual gifts. In time, my daughter developed the gift of spirit portrait drawings, my nephew the gifts of healing and trance mediumship. Through his gift, many wonderful spirit helpers spoke, bringing with them teachings and wisdom.

These meetings were recorded, and as the book progresses I introduce these spirit communications, interwoven with their relevance to ordinary people and world events. In fact the idea of writing this book, and sharing its wealth of material, came from the spirit communicators. It had never been my intention to do such a thing, although I thought it should be shared with others, so found the very thought of doing so quite daunting.

As the book progresses and the trance mediumship grows stronger, I gradually introduce this wonderful love and wisdom from the higher life.

Originally completed in 2002, it has taken eight years to finally bring a lifes work to reality.

We hope you enjoy The Journey.

I survived my first week of homeworking without doing any of the following:

Going mad

Playing games all day

Eating enough to go up a jeans size

Procrastinating for eight hours a day

Buying an iMac

So all things considered, pretty good.
Homeworking is a slightly odd experience, and I’m sure anyone who does it or has done so in the past may be able to relate to my first few days.

Initially things seem absolutely brilliant, you wake up without an alarm for the first time in months. A leisurely routine of getting up and ready for the day rather than the normal mad dash to get showered and out the door (in the dark and cold). I opted to take Sally into work for her two days, it helped her and meant I was up at a reasonable time and ready to go.

The first problem I had was a motivational one, and as I’m homeworking for myself and not for a company there isn’t any pressure to really get things done. So my first couple of days were less than productive but then all of a sudden things really clicked into place.

It doesn’t take long for the novelty of “I can watch 24 at 8:30 while having breakfast” to wear off and I started to impose a few office style restrictions on myself.
As I am primarily working on getting everything relating to my Mum’s book finished, I set myself a deadline whereby everything to do with it must be finished by the end of next week. It was always my intention when I finished my primary contract at the end of February to take a month to enjoy some time off and get the book finished. So when that schedule was enforced then things started to slot into place.

It’s been very interesting for me to be working on something that involves actually using (several) computers as opposed to fixing, configuring, installing or maintaining them. There has been some severe frustration with WordPress at times, but that is more down to my own knowledge of the system rather than the system itself being at fault. This partially sighted craftsman isn’t going to blame his tools this time.

But I’m very fortunate that everything I have been working on has a great community behind it, whether it be the support folks at Solostream who make them themes my sites run or the superb Kevin Partner who wrote the book “How to Set Up An Online Business” that has been my bible for this project.

The one key aspect though that everyone talks about when you switch from an office to a home environment (aside from regular income each month) is the human aspect. Working alone can be simply that…lonely. And while people are always either at the end of a phone, or on Twitter, Facebook, Messenger, etc it’s not the same as being able to walk a few steps and have a face to face conversation.
Although this aspect is quite frankly easily outweighed by the fact that I can work without shaving, not requiring smart clothing and I have a ready supply of espresso twelve steps away (yes I counted).

Of course everything in the universe has to balance out so while the bullet point list at the top of this post was celebrating the things I have managed to avoid doing, I have started to talk to myself and Will but fortunately neither of us answers. Oh and I have developed a penchant for microwave pizza and espresso. For breakfast. Don’t believe me?

Not Me, Today!

I’ve started my first proper day of working from home today and it’s certainly been an interesting experience so far.
After a couple of weeks of holiday (this should probably be in quotation marks as I spent a couple of days working, but I’m conscious of the fact I use quotes and brackets too much) I took Sally into work for the first time in years before turning around and coming back home again.

The strangest thing for me so far is just how quiet everything is. We aren’t noisy people by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s a rare occurance that I’m at home on my own with Sally working two days a week. So just having Will for company is a little odd. He’s not much of a conversationalist either.
Motivation is also a key factor for working from home. Right now I’m in the final phases of getting the book ready, but there are just so many distractions around I’m finding it very difficult to concentrate on actually getting that done. Procrastination is of course the thief of time, and I wouldn’t be able to put up anything but the flimsiest of arguments that this very blog post isn’t just that.

Pointless meanderings like this post aside, I have not a single regret about making the change to step aside from my last contract and slow things down a bit for a while. Work is coming along, it’s local and there are other people who are wanting to talk to me which is great.
The final book manuscript has been uploaded to Lulu today and I’m now waiting on them to get in touch to discuss the publishing package we have purchased. The cover art is locked, and the PDF version of the book will be ready this very afternoon. So perhaps we should call this a minor procrasatination break. I’ve got three hours until I have to go out and see a new client so I’ll do my best to resist the lure of starting Bioshock 2 and crack on with things.
