12 of 12 v4 – February

| February 12, 2009 | 15 Comments

Is it really year 4 for 12 of 12?  That’s a lot of food photos.  As always you don’t need me to tell you the deal with this one but just this once.  12 photos, the 12th day of the month.  Props as ever go to Chad Darnell, the creator of this worldwide activity.  Extra props to Chad for joining the cancer survivors club, and for anyone wanting to read the thoughts of a true survivor, check out his blog.

So to this month.  It’s a work day, and it’s also going to be a rather technologically focussed one.  But since that’s what I do, it’s to be expected.  I didn’t participate last month, but I did do a micro 12 on another day called 8 of 18, so it anyone wants to check that out it can be found HERE.  As always I have also uploaded these photos onto Flickr, as well as some extra ones that didn’t make the cut.

07:00 - Not so much black ice this morning, always a bonus.  I was hoping these photos were going to turn out a little better, but snapping from in the car is always tricky.  This shot is as I was about to go over Avon Causeway.  Yes, the car was stopped.  I had to grab this quickly before any other cars came along and started hooting at me.

I like this one, also on the way into work.  Trippy.

9:30 - New phone day!  My contract with Orange was due to expire and they weren’t giving me what I wanted so I was all set to jump to O2 and get an iPhone.  Then I spoke to the “Customer Loyalty” department yesterday and got a deal that gave me exactly what I wanted, and a load of money off my monthly tariff.  The phone in question is the HTC Touch HD.  Yes it runs Windows Mobile, but HTC’s special front end covers up the horror that is Win Mobile most of the time.  Here it the fastest Windows install I’ve ever done :)   Oh and the big win with this phone?  A 5 megapixel camera that produces some pretty decent shots.

11:00 – Getting a new HP server prepared for a customer in Birmingham.  In typical fashion the server arrived, but the extra memory and hard disk didn’t.  Maybe tomorrow then.

15:00 – After work I headed down to meet Sally at Tesco.  We do most of our shopping in Marks and Spencers these days.  M&S is the sort of place where you usually shop if you are either A – rich or B – old.  Sadly I’m closer to category B than A.  Come to think of it there is probably category C – A snob.  But every few weeks we do a quick Tesco run.  This is the first photo taken with the new phone.  Flip it on its side for more widescreen style snaps.  I’m really pleased with the quality of it.  For a phone cam, it’s fantastic.

15:30 – Back home.  It wouldn’t be a 12 without a snap of Will.  Here he is in the warmest place in the house – sat on the boiler.

15:45 – Lost.  I needn’t say any more.  Still the finest show on TV.

16:45 - Waiting impatiently for FEAR 2 to install to the Xbox 360 (have to do this with all games now, the machine is just so much quieter when they are installed to the hard drive).

17:15 – Dinner.  Lasagne and garlic bread.  It doesn’t look particularly appealing in this photo, but it was very nice.

17:45 - Techno overload.  Getting the images edited and this post written.  Having dual monitors now really helps with this kind of thing.  I’m also doing some updates to Windows 7 on my netbook and getting ready to play Flower that was released onto the PlayStation Network today.  Yes, that is a Spiderman drinks cup.  It came from Universal Islands of Adventure and always reminds me of happy times.

17:53 - The “post installation” shot of the phone, all now completely configured.  3G working fine, I can get my business e-mail anywhere (the single most important thing to me with this phone) and it is nice and responsive.

18:00 - Finally this month, I’ve been meaning to take a photo of these for a while.  My company cufflinks made by my design genius Anto.

That’s it for my first 12 of 12 for this year.  I’m going to spend the remainder of the evening collapsed in a semi conscious heap watching TV and playing videogames.  Next month we will be cruising around the Caribbean on our first holiday in almost three years so I will see you back here in April for the next 12 :)

  1. How can people survive without dual monitors… I miss mine deeply as I’m travelling through Austria (with my tiny Apple laptop) so I invite you to share my walk through a place near Vienna. Cheers Eliane

Great pics as always! I think the lasagne and garlic bread look YUMMY!!!!! :)

  3. Yay for a new phone! I like M&S for their bathroom/kitchen/bedroom cheap range. I managed to get a knife, 2 bowls, a plate and a pillow for £7.80 in there this week, thanks to their value range and a 3 for 2 on kitchenware. But yeah, their food is expensive – yummy, but expensive.

    Enjoy the gaming!

Oh, how nice it must be to live in a part of the world where mobile phones don’t run on an antiquated system …

I enjoy the trippy photo. I wanted to go for a similar effect but it didn’t come out. Also, I don’t like trying to balance the camera while I’m driving!!

    I think I have phone envy…

    Love the kitty pic!

    Pete,
Glad to see you made it this month. 5mega pixels camera phone …way cool. It sure does take some great pics. Mine is 3 Mp and I thought that was tops for camera phones when I got it last year. My cell is not nearly that sharp, but in my business durability is worth more than sophistcation. I went with a basic old style Nokia for years till last year when I upgraded to a Samsung Flip Phone. It does all I need for now.

I’m not sure you thought the cuff link thing through though? How often do you wear french cuffs in a business situation and how often would you wear your company logo links at a black tie affair? Hmmm? Maybe I’m wrong though. I’ve been out of the business for twenty years. Times have changed, but you better make sure you have the cord pulled and yourself grounded before you go installing an interface card or hard drive lest you short out a circuit with those metal links. They do look great though. Might I suggest a tie tac. Much more likely to be seen being squarely in the middle of your chest than at the end of your arms covered up by your jacket sleeve. That is if you’re trying to get your name out there.

I don’t watch Lost, but that is one awesome entertainment center! I’m looking to upgrade sometime after my move next month. Till then my 19″ RCA will have to do.

Great pics Pete. Love the second one best with a tunnel vision/fisheye kinda of motion blur thing going on …cool.

    Ta ta till next month…

  8. Pete says:

Thanks Hibe, easy answer though on the cufflinks: They are fun, and they were free :) My buddy made them for me and sent them over. I wear a turnback cuff shirt maybe once a fortnight whereas I used to wear them every day.
Not much call for “dress up” these days, but its nice when I do :)

I usually wear my electro-static Armani suit to work that says ‘Your Ignorance is my Job Security’ across the breast pocket. 8- )

  10. DXEndar says:

good 12 of 12 by the way. I always get excited about doing a 12 of 12 after seeing other peoples, but when I go to do mine . . . I get un motivated and end up taking 3 pictures lol.

  11. Pete says:

    electro-static Armani suit LOL.
    You the man Endar :)

  12. Scooter says:

What fun pix! Thanks for sharing your day with us.

  13. Linda says:

Cool new phone! I want one!

A Caribbean vacation sounds amazing. Enjoy!!!

We’ll see you in April. :) *waves to Will*

  14. Xander says:

I love the second photo. Really cool!

  15. Bush Mackel says:

Why is it that your pictures always look bright and from the future and mine look be taken from a dungeon? ha ha. Must say a lot about the current state of affairs over here I guess. BTW, I think I’m going to start doing it like you of having my posts contain all the pictures so one doesn’t have to clickthru to my gallery. We’ll see…
