12 of 12 V3 – May 2008

| May 12, 2008 | 19 Comments

It’s 12 of 12 time once again, this month was supposed to be centred around our day trip to Brighton but after only three hours sleep I wasn’t going to get up at 5am to beat the rush hour traffic, so it’s around and about the usual places today. Brighton is still on for this week and there will be pictures so check back for those if you so desire.

Anyway, let’s get to it. As ever we take a page from 12 of 12 101 and inform you that 12 of 12 is 12 photos on the 12th day of every month, depicting your day in pictoral form. That fine chap Chad Darnell created it, and dozens of people make the effort to take part each month.
As ever, I took more photos and they are all on the Flickr set for this month at much higher resolution HERE. Here’s my set.

X-Files

First up, checking out the new X-Files movies in HD which went live late last night. A textbook teaser trailer if there ever was one, and given that The X-Files ranks in my top five TV shows of all time, possibly even in the top spot (it’s either that or The Prisoner) I am pretty excited for this movie. No aliens, no conspiracies, a stand alone mystery story. I have high hopes. Top 5 TV shows? The Prisoner, X-Files, Doctor Who, Arrested Development and maybe Frasier. Or Friends. Or Will & Grace. In no particular order. Moving on.  Oh no wait, LOST!  How could I forget that…

Post Office

Sorry about the wonky photo, I took it from the car window (I was stopped), this was taken around 9:30-10:00. Ye Olde English Post Office, complete with Ye New Worlde Inflated Prices.

El Homer

10:30 – Would you buy a cup of coffee from this man? We dropped in to visit Ian here at Coffee Republic down in Bournemouth. The air conditioning was broken, it was boiling hot and I was faced with the prospect of this man wearing shorts. Harrowing.

Fruity

Noticed a pattern emerging yet? There’s a lot of eating and drinking on hot days like this one (27 degrees celcius at one point). I went to meet Maceie at Costa for a refreshing lunchtime beverage while Sally went on a birthday present recon mission.

Toasty Will

12:30 – Back home, it’s too hot to eat just yet and Will is feeling the heat. Trying to escape on top of the wardrobe in a cooler spot.

Red Bull Cola

Red Bull….Cola? While down at Coffee Republic my enabler thrust this my way. It’s too warm to drink yet, maybe later.

The Housemartin

14:00 – Sustainance! I’m going ridiculously OTT with food and drink pictures today, but it was some mouthwatering stuff this month. This is the Housemartin, a local pub that is slightly more upmarket than your usual pub. The food is a little more expensive, but it’s better quality. Case in point…

My food

My late lunch, lasagne and some chips on the side, but nothing prepared us for this monstrosity!

FOOD!

It was at this point Sally regretted ordering the ribs, or more specifically didn’t ask for the smaller size portion! Given that she is incredibly small, I don’t know how she managed to pack all of these away and manage a desert afterwards. Then never puts any weight on, disgusting isn’t it?

Isle of Wight

15:00 – After that food mountain we took a walk along Barton clifftop, this is a view of the Isle of Wight just across the way. We walked along the front here and back up here:

Barton

Incredibly we have come to the end of 12 of 12 for another month, and it’s not even past dinnertime yet. Suffice to say the evening will probably consist of me continuing with side quests in Grand Theft Auto IV, so you aren’t missing much! For my final photo I was going to go for a showboating crowd pleaser and drive into the New Forest and take a snap of the new baby donkeys, but it’s too hot for that. We even went for another walk to see if Holly the border collie dog was waiting at her front gate, but no sign.

PC Guts

So I’m afraid the final photo this month is of the innards of a PC I have just secured a buyer for (well Maceie has), so it’s time to give that a sort out before it goes on Wednesday.

Thanks for checking out my photos this month, see you next time!

Very good pics brother! A couple of notes however…

Your chips look strangely like French Fries. And Sally isn’t human. There’s no way such a tiny girl can eat that much food and not require a wheelchair. :)

  2. Pete says:

I think she may well be alien, damn woman is digging the garden over now, it’s just wrong. I’m collapsed in my chair struggling to move, and she had the larger meal!

  3. Nici says:

So how could you forget “Lost”??? And what’s about “Grey’s Anatomy”? Or speaking of “Doctor Who”: “Torchwood”? Okay, the last one isn’t really on my Top 10 list either but I like the show :)
Great pics, Pete. And just for your and your brothers information: I was once like Sally. I could have eaten such things for weeks without gaining weight. But this changed a few years ago :( I wish it would come back.
And I have to check for this Red Bull Cola. I haven’t seen it here yet. But sounds tasty …

  4. Pete says:

I am dying to try the Red Bull Cola, but I know that if I drink it tonight I will be buzzing until very late and I want an early night tonight :(

As for Grey’s, you know there are so many shows we watch now, I can’t possibly tempt starting another one!

  5. Prison Break’s in my top 10 for sure, as is The West Wing. And Friends and Alias and well maybe this needs some thought  .

That lasagna looks like the exact same one (dish, how it was made, etc.) that I had in a pub in the Midlands – again, slightly more upmarket than your average pub, so maybe mine and yours are part of a more upmarket chain?

The real clue will be if yours was hotter than the surface of the sun. I burnt my mouth on my lasagna!

Looks like you had super sunny and warm weather – I hope it continues, but that you find some cool soon!

  6. Janelle says:

Oooh if I hadn’t read this I wouldn’t have known the trailer was out for the X-Files. It definitely ranks as one of my all time fave shows. Brilliant. I think it’s brilliant that 27c is “hot” over there. Awesome! That’s the average temp where I live, almost year round! I love your town, it’s very quaint and beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Great photos, made me homesick and I’ve only just come home from visiting my mum in W. Sussex, rained nearly every day, might I add!

  8. Christin says:

Very lovely 12 of 12. We have the same warm weather here in Germany and I absolutely love it. I really like your Isle of Wight pic. It makes me want to pack my things and just go there…

  9. Allison says:

Good boy! Arrested Development. Definitely in my top 3. Yummy looking food on your day and lots of ribs! Hope they were tasty.

  10. Ian says:

Can i just say my legs in shorts are an acquired taste…. :-)

But the coffee was worth it the suffering i take it?

PS the CEO of CR liked your post when it flashed up on his screen.

  11. Michele says:

Loved the shot of the Isle of Wight but those ribs looked vile! Just torn from the animal nasty. I much preferred your lasagna.

  12. Pete says:

The coffee was worth the suffering, I nearly PAID for a Coffee Republic coffee in Brighton yesterday, but didn’t.

I’m glad the CEO enjoyed the post, and I’m glad you’re getting the Firefly drinks too which are top.

  13. Brian says:

So many pictures of food! My stomach is grumbling. Must go find breakfast.

  14. Dan says:

Great photos! I love seeing photos of the UK.

  15. MARVELOUS pictures! I’ve visited UK twice and just loved it! I’ll most def check back to see pictures of Brighton! Thanks for sharing!

  16. Estelle says:
